" The Sun went down at BOLDFOLK on 14.1.2009 with the sudden passing of my dear Dad, Bill Bowden. Reunited with my Mum May, and all his beloved Collies who are at the Rainbow Bridge".
"Dad you are very sadly missed by us and "your girls" " Phoebe " and "Gracie".
Our kennels were established in 1989. However our love with Collies began many years earlier.
Our whole family loves Collies. May and Bill (Mum and Dad) were given their first Rough Collie in 1960. His pedigree was unknown. He was a rich mahogany Sable and his name was “Laddie “.
In the early 1970’s Mum and Dad purchased a Tricolour female bred by Ann Stewart( Kimberly Kennels). Her name was “Lady “. Lady passed away when she was about 2.5 years from what we now know to have been Parvovirus.
Mum and Dad also had a Sable Smooth female given to them. Her name was “Lassie”. However she did not stay for too long as she did not like children.
“Laddie “passed away at age 15 years, a very sad day for all of us. We did not think any other Collie could come into our house after that.
1989 came and we decided the time was now right to purchase another Collie.
We purchased a lovely golden Sable male from Leslie Hill of Nauglamir Kennels.
His pedigree name was Nauglamir Seabrooke and he was named “Brodie “.
“Brodie “was always well placed in the Show ring but that was not really his scene.
I commenced Obedience Training and “Brodie” excelled at this.
“Brodie “gained both his Companion Dog and Companion Dog Excellent Titles with ease.
“ Brodie “ sired a lovely litter of eight puppies when mated to Ch. Conena Line Bred owned by Dorothy Brattan of Brattanbrea Kennels in 1995. The puppies went to live with families in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
“Brodie “often did publicity work at Hospital fetes, school fun days.
He also appeared on National television, on Good Morning Australia, hosted by Bert Newton, for the 40th Anniversary of the making of the first “Lassie “movie.
In 1997 our family purchased a lovely Tricolour female named Colbeau Go Get Em Legal, she was called “Maggie “.
“Maggie “exceeded all expectations in the Show ring, winning her first Challenge Certificate at the tender age of 6months and 1 week.
“ Maggie “ continued to do well in the Show ring, winning Best In Group All Breeds Open Show, Runner Up Best In Group All Breeds Open Show, Class in Group and Class in Show All Breeds Championship Show under Canadian Collie Specialist Mr C Dowling.
“Maggie “gained 99 Challenge points in just 8 Challenge Certificates. Then the wait for the final point started. 2 years and 26 Reserve Challenges.
In March 2003 “Maggie “finally gained her final point under Mr G Missen with Bitch Challenge and Runner Up Best of Breed.
We did it !!!!!! Maggie is now an Australian Champion, our first!
25th April 2003 was a very sad day here. Our beloved “Brodie “passed away, he was 14 years and 14 days.
Another sad day came here at Boldfolk with the sudden passing of my beloved mother, May, on 17th November 2003.
“Maggie” was lonely and in December 2004 we were fortunate enough to be able to purchase a beautiful female puppy named Kazjs Petticoats Showin from Carol and John Mulcahy of Kazjs Kollie Kennels in New South Wales. She was named “Phoebe”.
Phoebe was certified CEA Clear by Opthamolgy and her Hip Score was 0:0, International Grade- Excellent.
“Maggie “took very ill in 2005 and she left for the Rainbow Bridge on 15th July 2005, aged just under 8 years.
Phoebe was lonely so we took an aged Rescue Collie named Bundy. Phoebe and Bundy were instant best friends.
Bundy blessed the family with his presence but due to his ill health he was given his "wings" for the Rainbow Bridge after only 3 months .
2006 saw our first litter in over 30 years. We mated Kazjs Petticoats Showin( Phoebe) to Australian Champion Zealotry King o Spells(Paddy). This was a well thought out litter as we line bred to the stunning Antoc Face The Music(Imp UK) and we had 2 surviving female pups, Amazing Grace and Hallelujah.
We kept Boldfolk Amazing Grace . "Mum" Phoebe did well in the Show Ring winning multiple Class In Groups but she prefered to hand the reins to her daughter Gracie to be shown.
Gracie hit the show ring running by placing 2 out of a class of 10 at the 2007 Collie National and then due to ill health of Bill then Colleen Gracie didn't go to many shows. Then as an Adult Gracie decided she wanted to be shown and some very special friends took over showing Gracie and in the space of 18 months Gracie picked up her 100 points from just 9 shows to be awarded the title of Australian Champion and picked up several Class In Groups on the way.
" Gracie" is our 1st Homebred Australian Champion and she tells me she is not "finished" yet,
We have learnt a lot in the years we have been blessed by Collies.
All of our breeding stock is DNA Profiled, eye tested for Collie Eye Anomaly and hip scored, where possible.
All pups bred by us will be eye tested by a qualified Canine ophthalmologist.
We do not have a large number of dogs. Our dogs are first and foremost much loved family members and anything they achieve after that is a bonus.
